Purcell Family of America

An association to help those trace the Purcell family line

My ggrandfather Benjamin F. Purcell, who grew up on a farm in MO,went to Troy around 1868. As a carpenter, perhaps he went there for work. The town was booming in those days because of the terminus of the Erie Canal and also because a town-wide fire several years before had necessitated a lot of rebuilding. He met and married Mary A. Brickley in 1869. I'm planning to search church records to find their marriage and first two children's baptisms. Does anyone else have ancestors who lived in Troy?

Connie,
Closest I can come in around Margaretville, NY 1919; where my father's house burned down when he was a young boy.
Harry Purcell

Hi, Harry. Margaretville is a good way southwest of Troy (which is north of Albany) but thanks for replying. There were a lot of Purcells in Troy in the mid and late 1800's. Perhaps some of your dad's people may have started out there. Happy hunting.
